When you look into what dental implants can achieve, it’s very easy to get excited about them. Their durability, strength, and realism has made them an incredibly popular method of tooth replacement, especially among those people who are looking to upgrade from dentures or bridges.

Some patients who are interested in dental implants are a little bit put off by the surgery. Fortunately, the procedure to get your dental implants won’t be all that intensive; if you’re curious about what this will entail or how long it will take, here’s some information you may find interesting.

Factors that Affect the Length of Dental Implant Surgery

It’s worth noting right away that the length of time that it will take to complete your dental implant surgery depends on several factors. The first is whether or not you’ll need to get any kind of preliminary treatments before your procedure, like bone grafts or gum disease therapy.

Then there’s the number of dental implants that you’re getting. As you can imagine, placing more of them means that both the surgery itself and the aftercare will take longer.

How Long Does Dental Implant Surgery Take?

Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts

It’s worth separating these procedures into their own section because healing from these procedures will take a while. If you need a bone graft or sinus lift, you’ll need to heal completely before getting your dental implants. This usually anywhere from three to six months.

The Dental Implant Surgery Itself

For the most part, dental implants can be placed within just one surgical session, usually taking around one to two hours. However, as you can imagine, this can change depending on the number you need or the complexity of the procedure.

How Long Before My Dental Implants are Complete?

All told, it will take anywhere from a few months to a year to go from the initial design process to having your dental implants. While this sounds like it may take a while, the brand new teeth that you end up with will make this process completely worth it.
