5 Signs That It’s Time to Replace Your Dentures!

For those who have experienced significant tooth loss, dentures are a great way to restore both the appearance and function of the teeth. Every denture is custom-made to fit patients’ mouths perfectly, allowing for optimal comfort and aesthetics. However, it’s important to note that dentures don’t last forever. They will need to be replaced from time to time. Here are some signs that your dentures need to be relined or replaced.

Your Dentures Are Loose

Dentures shouldn’t shift around or fall out with ease. If this is happening to you, it likely means that they don’t fit properly. They should stay firmly in place when you chew and speak. If you notice that your dentures are becoming loose, they aren’t as snug to the gums as they should be. As a temporary fix, over-the-counter denture adhesives are available, but you should schedule an appointment with your dentist. This way, the next steps can be taken to restore your dentures.

Your Dentures Feel Uncomfortable

When you first get new dentures, it can take some time to get used to them. You might feel some minor discomfort during this adjustment period, but they shouldn’t be causing you significant pain. This could mean that they aren’t fitting properly or are damaged. If you are starting to develop sores or lesions in your mouth, or you notice changes in your gum health, you should schedule an urgent visit with your dentist to get to the bottom of the issue.

Speaking is Challenging

It is more difficult to speak clearly when you have ill-fitting dentures. If you notice that you’ve been slurring more or mumbling often, the issue could be your dentures. Talk to your dentist so they can be adjusted or replaced.

Your Dentures Are Damaged

Dentures are strong and durable, but they aren’t completely indestructible. If you notice cracks, chips, loose teeth, or missing teeth, contact your dentist. They will take a look to determine the best course of action.

Your Dentures Are Discolored

Excellent denture care and oral hygiene can prevent staining.  However, it can still occur over time. If this is something that is bothering you, it’s a perfectly valid reason to consider replacing them. Let your dentist know. How you feel about the appearance of your teeth matters!

If you are dealing with any of the issues listed above, give your dentist a call. A fresh set of replacement teeth may be just what you need!
