Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
If you currently have health insurance, it’s important to note that dental insurance does not operate in the same fashion. For example, while most medical insurance offers coverage for those experiencing emergencies, dental insurance is more intended for preventive treatments that help you avoid dental emergencies overall. These treatments include checkups, cleanings, X-rays and other services designed to help you catch dental issues before they require expensive restorative or urgent treatments. The earlier you catch problems, the more affordable and easier treatment will be.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
While every dental plan is a bit different, most plans offer the same level of coverage for the same categories of treatment. In most cases, PPO plans follow a structure that closely resembles the following:
-
Preventive Care – Biannual checkups and cleanings are typically covered at 100%. X-rays are usually covered as well, but this can depend on the type of X-ray performed.
-
Minor Restorative Care – Tooth-colored fillings and root canal therapy are usually included in this category and receive between 70% and 80% coverage.
-
Major Restorative Care – If you need a more substantial restoration, such as a crown, bridge or denture, these typically receive between 50% and 60% coverage.
Our In-Network PPO Dental Insurance Providers
For you and your family’s convenience, La Prada Family Dentistry of Garland is in-network with most dental PPO plans. By working with a wide variety of insurers, we hope that paying for your dental care is more manageable and accommodating than what you’d typically expect with a dental office. These providers include:
-
Metlife
-
Humana
-
Cigna
-
Guardian
-
Principal
-
Delta
-
Aetna
-
Blue Cross Blue Shield
-
United Concordia
By being in-network, our dental office has agreed to a series of predetermined fees for specific services. In most cases, this fee is lower than what you’d pay if you were out-of-network. Additionally, we are one of few dental offices to accept Medicaid benefits for children in need of dental care, as part of our commitment to better-serving families in Garland and the surrounding areas.
