Does your teen feel self-conscious about their smile? If so, they’re not alone. Most teenagers are nervous about what others might think when seeing their smile, especially if it is crooked. As a result, the desire for orthodontic treatment may be something they want to pursue. But improving appearances isn’t the only reason teens should opt for braces. They also work to improve oral health, which is essential if future restorative and complex care are to be avoided. Call us today to find out how our team at La Prada Family Dentistry can help your teen embraces greater confidence while enjoying a healthier smile.
Getting your teen orthodontic care early on in life is one of the best ways to minimize the potential for more serious developmental, mental, and health-related problems in the future. The mouth and body are closely connected, so as your teen grows, it’s important that our team closely monitor any changes in their bite so that they continue to practice normal, daily oral functions without issues. Otherwise, a lack of treatment can negatively influence their confidence, physical appearance, and oral health.
At La Prada Family Dentistry, we are pleased to offer two solutions for teenagers – traditional braces and Invisalign clear aligners. During a scheduled consultation, a member of our team will go over the available options and discuss which one is right for your teenager.
Using the regular metal bracket-and-wire system, traditional braces are considered the standard for orthodontic treatment. The reason is that they are capable of solving the most complex dental problems and are a great option for both teens and adults. By applying continuous pressure to teeth, it forces them to move into the appropriate location over time, resulting in a healthy, beautiful, and straighter smile. Whether your teen has crowded, gapped, or crooked teeth, or needs help to realign their overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite, traditional braces can be a great way to achieve long-lasting results.
Unlike traditional braces that are visible to others, Invisalign clear braces offer an alternative solution. With clear, plastic trays that are custom-made to fit your teen’s changing smile, these aligners look virtually invisible, helping them to feel less self-conscious about their appearance. The trays are worn for 1-2 weeks at a time, at which your teen will swap them out for a new set in the series. This will be repeated until treatment is finished, which can take much less time than with traditional braces.
The only way to know which option is right for your teenager is to schedule an appointment with our team. At La Prada Family Dentistry, we take the time to get to know you and your teen, as well as capture diagnostic imaging to better understand the state of their smile. From there, our orthodontist can determine the severity of their dental issues and make the appropriate recommendation to help them take back their smile and their confidence.
